The Research Universities' Council of BC Announces New President

UBC President and RUCBC Board Chair Prof. Stephen J. Toope today announced the appointment of Robin Ciceri as President of the Research Universities’ Council of British Columbia.

Ciceri comes to the Council after a long and distinguished career in the BC government, where she held leadership positions in intergovernmental relations, labour relations and post-secondary education.  She was also Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Human Resources and the Ministry of Small Business and Revenue.  Most recently she was the Deputy Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development.

“We are simply delighted to be able to recruit someone of Robin Ciceri’s caliber to lead the Council,” said Prof. Toope. “She will be a tremendous asset to me personally and to all the research university presidents in BC as we move to enhance our position as leading post-secondary institutions in Canada and around the world.”

“I look forward to working with Council members, their leadership teams and our many post-secondary system partners,” said Ciceri. “I am truly excited about this wonderful opportunity.

In this position, Ciceri will work closely with the leadership teams of UBC, SFU, UVic and UNBC to identify and address important issues facing the universities and provide system wide leadership in the development of relevant public policy.

Ciceri will begin her duties effective November 23, 2009.
