UBC professor receives Sherritt Hydrometallurgy Award

Materials engineering professor David Dixon has received the 2010 Sherritt Hydrometallurgy Award from the Hydrometallurgy Section of the Metallurgical Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.  A medal and a cash prize are given to recognize significant contributions in the field of hydrometallurgy.

Dixon is an expert in biohydrometallurgy and the co-inventor of Galvanox, a cleaner, greener and more profitable process for refining copper. He will be presented with the award during Uranium 2010 – the 2010 Annual Hydrometallurgical Meeting in Saskatoon from Aug. 15-18.
