This Thursday, UBC and partners will open a first-of-its-kind clean energy facility, making it Canada’s first university to produce both clean heat and electricity for its campus from renewable bioenergy.

Media are invited to attend the opening, which will include facility tours and interview opportunities with university, industry and government representatives.

The facility, which runs on tree trimmings and wood chips diverted from local landfills, offers significant research and commercial opportunities. It is one of four projects, with a total value of $150 million, that will reduce UBC GHG emissions by 33 per cent by 2015. UBC has the most aggressive carbon reduction targets among top-40 universities.

Photo editors: High-resolution architectural images will be available for download tomorrow, but the event will feature news photo opportunities.
