UBC honours Paul Martin, Bramwell Tovey, Michael Wingfield during Fall Congregation

Assignment/Photo Editors: Media authorization is required to cover congregation ceremonies in the Chan Centre. Stationary camera space is very limited. Please arrive early. Handheld cameras highly recommended. A media feed will be provided.


Between Nov. 21 and Nov. 23, more than 2,800 UBC undergraduate and graduate degrees from all 12 Vancouver faculties will be conferred.

Paul Martin served as Canadian prime minister from 2003 to 2006. His achievements include a 10-year, $41 billion dollar plan to improve health care and reduce wait times, agreements with the provinces and territories to establish a national early learning and child care program, the Kelowna Accord, and creating a new financial deal for Canada’s municipalities.

Bramwell Tovey has been the respected and much-appreciated music director of the Vancouver Symphony since 2000. He is often invited as guest conductor with leading orchestras around the world including the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. A Grammy-awarded composer, Tovey is also a recorded jazz pianist and award-winning music director.

Michael Wingfield, a pioneering forest biotechnology researcher uncovered some of the most important pathogens of trees grown commercially in South Africa and elsewhere in the world. His work has helped to reduce losses to industry, communities and environmental organizations.
