UBC Brings Expert Panel Together to Assess Global Calamity

discussion.

As part of its initial response to the tsunami disaster,
the Liu Institute for Global Issues is hosting a panel discussion
including:
- The Honorable Stephen Owen, MP: Minister of Western Diversification;
Minister of State (Sport)
- Paul Evans, Acting Director, Liu Institute for Global
Issues
- Michael Byers, Academic Director, Liu Institute for Global
Issues
- Stephanie Chang, Canada Research Chair in disaster management
and urban sustainability, UBC’s School of Community
and Regional Planning.
The panel will examine present challenges of the relief effort,
how humanitarian relief can become sustainable development,
and implications for Canadian public policy, as well as private
initiatives.
