Emperor and Empress of Japan to visit UBC
On July 13, Their Imperial Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan
will visit UBC's Vancouver campus. Their Majesties will be welcomed by
UBC officials at the Asian Centre and tour the Nitobe Garden and the
Museum of Anthropology.
While the event is not open to the public, members of the UBC
community who wish to view Their Majesties' arrival may proceed on
foot to the west side of West Mall (between Memorial and Marine
Drive), the south side of Memorial Road (between West Mall and Lower
Mall), as well as the Fraser River Parkade before 9:45am. The use of
vehicles is strongly discouraged.

Anthology celebrates Canadian Literature’s 50th anniversary
This fall, Canadian Literature Journal will celebrate 50 years as UBC’s quarterly devoted to the critical discussion of Canadian writing. Ronsdale Press has published an anthology of writings from the journal entitled From a Speaking Place: Writings from the First Fifty Years of Canadian Literature.
The anthology is edited by former editors Prof. Emeritus W. H. New, Dept. of English, Prof. Eva-Marie Kroller, Dept. of Engish, Prof. Laurie Ricou, Dept. of English, associate editor Rejean Beaudoin and former associate editor and acting director Susan Fisher and former associate editor Iain Higgins.
The book will be officially launched at the anniversary gala to be held October 1-3, 2009.
